AI is changing how we all think about our work. In this session we show you how software developers can write code with a ‘conversation’. Sending structured English language requests to an AI tool can produce usable code, that can be useful if you need some inspiration or don’t know the exact syntax for a programming language.

This half-day session will:

– Explain how so-called ‘Vibe Coding’ can generate code, along with the benefits and disadvantages to be aware of.

– Provide a hands-on session to create code in an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with AI.

– Demonstrate how AI can be used to test code.

– Explain how ‘Agentic’ AI Agents are being developed that allow code to make decisions, with limited human supervision.

This session is an introduction to the use of AI in software development. It is intended for anyone with, or without software development experience and curious about how AI can be used to support software development.

It can be run at selected locations or online.

For this hands-on session, we encourage you to use your own laptop and have internet access. You will need the permission on your device to install the free edition of Windsurf and sign up for an account.
