I offer REFLECTIVE PRACTICE to anyone wishing to reflect upon their practice as a team, individual, volunteer, or MHFAider®. It advocates a proactive approach, whilst developing emotional intelligence, with opportunities for sharing concrete events.
My role is to facilitate a safe space for experiential learning. It is not a ‘clinical’, nor a ‘training’ environment. Individuals have choices with regards to the topics they discuss.
There is huge value in group members learning from and supporting each other, whilst gaining others’ perspectives on concrete events. It is an enjoyable process!
REFLECTIVE PRACTICE ENCOURAGES
– ‘Stepping back’ and thinking analytically about what we are doing, thinking, and feeling.
– Open-minded curiosity
– Acknowledging when emotions are involved.
– Self-awareness and managing feelings.
– An active desire to listen to more sides than one.
– Action planning
The ‘ADDED VALUE’ of group sessions can include:
– The power of being supported by colleagues.
– The generosity of giving support to our colleagues.
– The benefit of others’ perspectives.
– A proactive approach to supporting wellbeing at work.
This leads to learning and skill development. The structure of a Reflective ‘space’ enables all to contribute whilst placing no pressure to share personal experiences. Frameworks can be used to aid the process; however, my approach is person-centred—aided by a framework or model—rather than the other way around.
FEEDBACK FROM PARTICIPANTS:
‘I genuinely feel a positive impact from these sessions. I feel very comfortable to share and interject.’
‘It’s a time I always look forward to. It gives me the opportunity vent out and share ideas with my colleagues.’
‘I have been able to afford myself time to reflect, pause, process and from that develop.’
‘New ideas and mistakes being discussed finds solutions…and it binds the team together.’
‘Enabling vulnerability has enabled support for one another and deeper connection.’
