The Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is a CITB-accredited course for site managers, and for those preparing to step up into a site management role. Delivered online over five days by a CITB-qualified instructor, it gives candidates the knowledge to manage and implement health, safety and environmental systems on a construction site.

The course is structured across five modules covering legal responsibilities and management, health and welfare, general site safety, high-risk activities and environmental awareness. This includes the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Construction Design Management (CDM), risk assessments and method statements, site inductions, working at height, excavations, confined spaces and temporary works.

Assessment is by an exam of 18 multiple-choice questions and seven short written questions, with a minimum pass mark of 81%. Candidates who score above 72% are offered an immediate resit on the same day. This is a 5 day course.
